The name¶
Shadewright is two old words put together.
Shade is shadow, the half-light where the dark elves of fantasy live and work: unseen, patient, very good at their craft. The project's first brief asked for a name from that world, and the hooded figure in the logo comes from it too. It fits what the operator does: it watches a cluster from the background, reads every event and log line, and stays out of the way until it has something worth saying.
Wright is the Old English wyrhta, a maker or craftsman, the word that survives in shipwright, wheelwright and playwright. A wright does not command things into being; they build them, and someone else decides whether the work is good enough to use.
That is the whole design in one word. Shadewright does not cast fixes onto a cluster. It crafts them, as a small, typed, reviewable change in Git, and hands the work over: your review rules decide whether it merges, and your GitOps controller is the one that puts it in place.
A wraith on the way¶
The first domain bought for the project was shadewrith.io, one letter short, which reads more like
shade-wraith. It was kept: it redirects here, a small ghost of the naming.
